Holycross 1 - Rearcross U-15's 7

Rearcross U-15’s made the early morning trip to Glenbane on Saturday for this league encounter against Holycross and recorded a comprehensive 7-1 win against the home side. The bitterly cold conditions didn’t detract from a Rearcross eleven which were fast out of the traps with Stephen Rochford coming close early on and then Aidan Bryan was inches away from a Patrick Dawson delivery. The opener came on the ten minute mark when Stephen Rochford was nudged inside the box before Patrick Dawson stepped up to drill low under the keeper. The Rea boys were on the front foot after this with an Oran Connors free kick not far away and then the Aidan Bryan was unlucky to see the ball skew off his boot. It was two nil to away side eleven minutes before the break after a through ball from Cillian Kennedy found Eoin Sheldon who kept his nerve to finish to the back of the net. The lead was extended to three a minute later after good footwork from Oran Connors found Patrick Dawson in space who made no mistake from just inside the area. A trio of goals was completed in a four minute spell when Oran Connors read well to finish at the back post to give his side a commanding four nil lead. Holycross were thrown a lifeline in the 29th minute when Stephen Quinlan broke through the centre to score with a fine effort. The game was over as a contest two minutes in to the second half after an Aidan Bryan assist set up Patrick Dawson who fired a low belter inside the far post to complete his hat-trick. The hosts didn’t give up though and Stephen Quinlan was in the action again with a good strike which came off the butt of the post. A period of pressure by the home team saw Danny Poyzer to the fore with some firm defending. Stephen Quinlan had a fine outing for Holycross and came close again with a good effort which was barely over. Stephen Rochford opened his account on sixty minutes with the goal of the game courtesy of a twenty five yard rasper to the roof of the net from out of the right. Stephen Rochford then made it 7-1 to the Slieve Felim side three minutes later to clinch the win for Rearcross.

Congratulations and best wishes to Team Manager Joey Nolan and Leona Keogh who announced their engagement last weekend.
